“The first 100 days in the job” - CAU alumni give tips on starting out with your career

Jun 29, 2017

What are recruiters looking for at job interviews? How can those starting out in their careers find an initial orientation in their new jobs? And what is the best way to deal with problems at work? At yesterday’s event “Die ersten 100 Tage im Job” (the first 100 days in the job) - featured by Kiel University's Career Center and ZEIT campus- a panel of experienced experts at Kiel University addressed these and other questions from students. As panel members, CAU alumni Wolfgang Blancke (HR division manager, EDEKA Zentrale AG & Co. KG) and Birte Eichhorn (Department Manager Finance and Personnel, Consist Software Solutions GmbH) gave helpful tips for job interviews and the first few months at a new job.

Crucial: face any challenges head on and be yourself! “Be yourself in a job interview. If you put on an act, we will find out later anyway,” advised Wolfgang Blancke, who studied Law at Kiel University. Business Administration alumna Birte Eichhorn also encouraged people to address any work-related problems in a new job directly: “Don’t be afraid! Say what is bothering you - that’s the only way we will be able to react and help.” On that note, internal company networks and talking to colleagues are also important. This is often a good way to find people to talk to and people you can confide in at work.

Thank you very much to our two alumni for their helpful ideas and tips. We wish our students all the best when starting out in their careers!
